5. Those who want advanced massage features like pulse and wave massage with auto-shutoff timer
  6. Individuals that visit the bathroom at night (under-bed lighting)

27 Pros & 3 Cons of the DM9000s, the #1 Ranked Adjustable Base

We have sub-divided the Pros & Cons to the following sub-categories for easy explanation:

  • 9 MAJOR Pros
  • 18 additional benefits
  • 3 Cons
The top bed base has 9 of the Top 10 Features
1. Independent Pillow tilting

head/ chest tilting can straighten you up to a maximum of 60 degrees. This doesn’t straighten your back enough for watching television, reading, working etc. Pillow tilting can incline you an additional 30 degrees providing better neck and back support during reading, TV watching, knitting, email checking etc. No more stacking pillows to keep your head straight. This one is a mandatory feature if you do any of the above tasks on your bed. Also helps to stop snoring by elevating your head by a few degrees; a very useful , an essential feature for seniors. and people with sleep apnea.

2. Wall hugging

Other ordinary adjustable beds moves you forward and away from the wall/ headboard when the head section is raised. This movement basically puts the nightstand out of reach. If you wanted to reach something on the nightstand, you’ll have to reach back awkwardly, potentially straining your neck and back. The DM9000s has a premium feature called wallhugger engineering which makes the bed base slide back while it inclines and ensures that you stay adjacent to the nightstand at all times. This feature is a must have feature if you are a senior citizen or if you use your bed-side-table regularly. This is the one feature you will need if you use your nightstand/ bed-side-table often.

3. FOUR Memory Positions

Many  adjustable beds typically have preset and programmable memory placements. Presets, as the name says, are preset. You can’t change them even if you don’t like ’em. But programmable positions are customizable, like the zero gravity position or head and foot positions. Many people sleep in a zero-gravity position to improve breathing and blood circulation because it keeps the airways open. It is also beneficial for a patient after surgery to lessen aches in some areas of the body. The zero-gravity and Memory A & B buttons on the wireless remote of the DM9000s are customizable. Therefore, these buttons allow you to program and recall your favorite sleeping positions with a single click. In addition, there is also a one-touch flat preset button whichthat  allows you to flatten the bed from whatever position you were in previously. You cannot see these additional features to the basic adjustable bed brand or other adjustable beds. Whatever brand you end up buying, make sure it has at least one programmable memory button.

4. Head and Foot massage

function with timer (automatically controls and turns off massage in 10, 20 or 30 minutes), speed control buttons, 3 different intensity levels, pulse and rolling-wave feature.

5. Lumbar support

another rare feature which can help relieve certain types of lower back pains including tired/ aching lower back muscles. This one is adjustable; hence you can control the lumbar pressure applied on the lower back region using the ‘Lumbar Up’ and ‘Lumbar Down’ buttons.

6. Platform bed/ storage bed-friendly

(zero-clearance adjustable bed). Over 90% of the models have mechanical components sticking underneath the adjustable foundation preventing you from using it with a storage or platform bed. But the DM9000s is specially designed to offer convenience and ensure that nothing sticks underneath the bed.

7. Height adjustable legs

the 6 legs can be adjusted from 6 – 10 inches (at one inch increments) so that the top of the bed base can be as short as 14″ or as tall as 18″ (you need to add the mattress height to get the total height of the bed). Want it even shorter? Take out the legs completely and place the base on the floor and it will be only 8″ from the floor.

8. Under-bed LED lighting

so that your night-time trips to the bathroom can be lit up without disturbing your partner

9. Upholstered, furniture-style decking

for great looks (hides the ‘ugly’ metal components if you wish to use it as a standalone bed, without a wooden frame).

adjustable bed financing options
18 BONUS specs of the DM9000s base
1. Economically priced

the nearest competitor with similar specs is over $2000 more expensive (for a split-king) compared to the DM9000s adjustable beds

2. Extended 10-Year Warranty

on parts, mechanical, motor, electric & labor with in-home technician visits and great customer support service ($0 deductible parts).

3. Lifetime Warranty

on its metal frame.

4. Microhooking mattress retention system

sticks to the mattress like Velcro and prevents the mattress from slipping/ sliding when raising the upper body. (Our #1 recommended 365-day Home Trial best adjustable mattress comes with an 12-month home trial & forever warranty.)

5. Mattress retainer bar

is also included (at the foot of the bed). But you can get rid of it, if the microhooks can successfully keep your brand of mattress in place

6. Quiet motors

with 900 lb industry leading weight lifting capacity

7. Emergency power down

with power failures: you won’t be stuck in the upright position if there is a power failure

8. Backlit 18-button wireless remote

some remote controllers are NOT backlit making you search for buttons in the dark at night

9. One-touch zero gravity

(zero g; rest, relax and relief from back pains) and flat preset buttons so that you can go to those positions with the single click of a button

10. Smartphone compatible

via the iOS/ Android App

11. Split-king beds maybe synced

together or kept independent of each other, depending on your preference

12. Delivered assembled

Adjustable beds are delivered assembled; therefore, setup is quick

13. Free shipping
14. Gorgeous Design

Eye pleasing design with high-quality upholstery – on many low-quality bases, you will see that the cloth wrinkles when the bed moves, but not on the DM9000s

15. White glove delivery

White glove delivery and setup are available (at an additional price) for all Dynasty Mattress adjustable beds

16. All sizes available

All size options are available on the power base: Twin XL, full, queen size, eastern king, California king, and split sizes of regular king and California size king are also available

17. USB Ports

The DM9000s has 4 USB Ports (2 on each side of the bed) for charging devices like smartphones, tablet computers etc.

18. Bluetooth speakers and sub-woofer

Pair your phone to the speaker and listen to music while you fall asleep

Video Demonstration of Various Adjustable Bed Features
3 Cons of the DM9000s adjustable frame

1. Lacks a Remote Pouch

Not a deal breaker by any means. The PlushBeds S755 has a side pouch to hold the wireless remote controller.

2. Lacks 'Elevation Lift'

‘Elevation Lift’ is great for sleepers with severe acid reflux. But for most people, simply raising the head about five degrees will work very well to combat GERD / acid reflux

3. Out of Stock

Over the years, we’ve seen that this model goes out of stock online regularly. May be they can’t keep up with the demand (just guessing). Consider yourself lucky if the size you want is in-stock when you’re reading this.

Remote Controller Functions
4 Memory Positions
  • Three programmable positions: the Zero Gravity position can be customized the way you want. Memory A & B can be set to whatever you want them to be

  3. Infinite head and foot tilting positions
  4. Three programmable positions on the wireless remote control – M1, M2 and M3 buttons
  5. Four preset memory positions – Zero gravity preset, TV, anti-snore and flat

    • Such advanced massage features are usually seen only in high-end adjustable beds
  7. Four USB ports – two on each side
  8. Backlit, 16-button, wireless remote controller – you won’t be left clueless in the dark
  9. Height-adjustable legs – choose either 4″ or 6.5″ legs or put them together to give 10.5 inches. You need to add 4 inches to the leg height (the thickness of the frame) to get the actual height of the bed.
  10. Flashlight on the remote
  11. Mattress retention bar at the foot of the bed base
  12. Emergency power down – the bed can go down to the flat position in case of power outage
  13. Syncing (synchronizing) – two twin XL bases can be synced and controlled with a single remote in case of split-king adjustable beds
  14. Industry leading 1000 lb weight-lifting capacity
  15. Storage space underneath the bed – the Nectar is not a zero-clearance bed. However, when you’re using the 10.5″ leg height, you get at least 6.5″ storage space underneath the bed (the mechanics/ hydraulic arms need 3-3.5″ to operate)
  16. Three-year warranty
  17. Easy assembly – shipped mostly pre-assembled. You just need to screw in the legs and attach the motors, control box etc. Can take 20 – 45 minutes from unboxing to operation

  19. Many compatible adjustable mattress options (Nectar Memory Foam or Nectar Premier) to choose from
  20. Monthly Payments – 0% APR financing options available
Cons of the Nectar Motorized bed Frame
  1. Lacks advanced specs like pillow tilting, wall hugging and lumbar support – sure, these can be useful features; but the VAST majority of us don’t need them. If you can spare the additional $1800 – $3200, by all means go for it.
  2. Lacks under-bed lighting – would have been nice if the Nectar had it. But hey, there are all these touch-sensitive and motion-sensing bed-side lamps, night lights etc. etc. which can make up for it. Alternatively, you can even use the flashlight on the Nectar remote
  3. No smartphone App to control the bed – again, an advanced feature you cannot expect at this price. Besides, many of these apps have bugs and have poor consumer ratings.

$400 off SALE

Save $400 on a Split King or $300 om a Queen size on the manufacturer’s website

The Nectar adjustable bed frame is Similar to most other brands, if you’re buying a split version, you will be getting two wireless remotes with them. However, you can sync them together so that a single remote can operate both sides.  If you need to buy both an adjustable base and an adjustable mattress to replace your existing bed frames, if you’re shopping for a low-cost sleep system, seriously consider buying the Nectar Memory Foam mattress or the Nectar Lush mattress.

The 365-night trial period mentioned on their website is for the Nectar mattress and not the power base. However, they offer a 50 day refund period.

According to the Nectar website, “if you are not 100% satisfied, you can return your adjustable frame for a full refund up to 50 days after your purchase“. So it really is risk free and you have nothing to lose with the Nectar bed. Even though Nectar doesn’t call it so, it’s almost like a 50 day trial period to try their base. This is probably the best return policy for any electric adjustable bed base we have seen. Most adjustable beds in the market are non-refundable.

In summary, the Nectar is the best value adjustable bed of 2023 and you should grab it with both hands if it is still on sale.

A Model recommended for seniors

Given the cheap prices, the Nectar adjustable bed is a great choice for seniors and elders. Another thing to consider here is the easy set-up. If you had to pay for set-up, we might be talking about hundreds of dollars nowadays.

Prices range from $650 – $1300 (after the massive discount). This is the best price we’ve seen.

Most Luxurious bed brand– PlushBeds S755

Plushbeds s755 adjustable bed frame

PlushBeds S755 Adjustable Bed Frame

The Best Luxury Adjustable Bed

In terms of luxury, there is no doubt that the Malouf PlushBeds S755 is the best adjustable bed by a nautical mile. However, our adjustable bed review did not rank the S755 as the best adjustable base, because of its expensive price tag.

PlushBeds have several adjustable bed frames named E255, E455, M555 and S755. The S755 bed base is their high-end, luxury bed with all the premium features. It has all the features of the DM9000s and a few additional ones as well. This is our 2nd choice only because it costs almost twice as much as the Dynasty Mattress bed. It has 9 of the top 10 characteristics. Similar to the DM9000s, this product also lacks elevation lift.

The PlushBeds S755 also lacks the Bluetooth speaker and the sub-woofer of the DM9000 but has a remote pouch. To be quite honest your decision on buying an adjustable bed base should not be influenced by features like speakers and remote pouches. If you don’t want all the specs on the S755, yet you like the luxury of the PlushBeds models, consider some of the M555 or the E455.

S755 convertible bed frame Price

The decisive factor is the high price tag of the S755. PlushBeds S755 adjustable beds are approx. twice as more expensive as the DM9000s bed bases. At the time of writing this, you can get the DM9000s queen adjustable base for less than $1130 whereas the S755 queen base is priced at $2400. However, if you’re willing to spend the extra cash, we have no hesitation in recommending this bed. Tempur-pedic also has a big-budget adjustable bed named Tempur-Ergo. This Tempur-pedic adjustable bed frames cost approximately $2200 for queen sized beds and $4000 for king-sized bed frames. However, it still lacks a few specs compared to the Dynasty adjustable beds.

Major Cons of the PlushBeds S755

Similar Features to the DM9000s, but double the price. Prices range from $2300 – $4500 after the current discount (even after the discount, this is one of the priciest adjustable beds in the current market)

1st Runner-up Mid-Range bed frame – Layla Plus

Layla Plus bed base

Layla Plus Adjustable Bed

Layla is almost a household name in the USA. Layla is a giant in the mattress industry.

Their adjustable bed bases are available as two models:

  1. Layla Adjustable Base (the basic model) and
  2. The feature-rich Layla Adjustable Base Plus. This is the one that is ranked #4 on our list

Major highlights of the Layla bed frame:

  1. The Layla Plus comes with wall gliding (same as wallhugger engineering)
  2. Dual-zone massage feature with 3 different intensities and auto-shutoff timer
  3. Zero Gravity preset (for a well deserved rest), Anti-Snore, and Flat presets
  4. Under-bed LED Lighting
  5. 4 – 10.5″ adjustable height legs
  6. Alexa/Google Home Compatibility and connects to your smartphone via Layla’s Wi-Fi App
  7. 30-day trial period (return policy with 100% Money Back Guarantee). Sleep trial periods are not uncommon for mattresses. However, for adjustable bed frames, sleep trials are extremely rare.
  8. Four USB ports for charging four devices simultaneously
  9. Easy setup
  10. Anti-sliding deck – keeps the mattress in place and prevents it from sliding off the bed (similar to the microhooking retention system on the DM9000s). Also comes with a mattress retainer bar at its foot .
  11. Simple and sleek remote control
  12. Last but not least, the product comes from the popular and highly respected brand, Layla
  13. If you’re considering purchasing a bed package with a mattress, Layla offers some of the best mattress models in the industry. Pair the Layla Plus with the Layla Memory Foam or Layla Hybrid mattress for a perfect sleep system.
  14. Some size options like split California king are not available

  1. Troy

How does the ghost adjustable base compare to all the brands you have in your top list?

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Troy,
Thanks for stopping by. The GhostBed is currently our best entry level model. It lacks some of the most highly recommended features like pillow tilting and wall hugging. However, it has some other great features. Please refer to the comparison table for more details.

      Hope that helps!

  2. Kevin

This really is a unique review. I saw the list of 25 features but couldn’t find the 33 specs. Where is that?

    • Belinda Palmer

Thank you for your kind words. The 33 specs can be found here.

      Hope that helps!
      Happy Holidays!

  3. Chrissy

Wow is all I can say. I had a great education on electric beds! Like someone else said, you completely changed what I was going to buy and saved me thousands of dollars. You saved me $1900 to be exact. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Merry Christmas to Belinda and company!

    • Belinda Palmer

Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, indeed we try to give a good education and happy that we were able to save you money.
      Happy Holidays and Stay Safe!

  4. Quinton

This is really helpful information. I was on the verge of buying a craftmatic adjustable bed and then I stumbled upon Bedroom Solutions. I will say no more 🙂 Thank you Belinda and team.

    • Belinda Palmer

Thank you Quinton for those words. Our purpose is to make sure that our visitors get the best value for their dollar. Hope you get that with your purchase!

      Stay safe and happy holidays!

  5. Rowland

Are you familiar with any of the costco adjustable beds? I’m single and already have a decent full sized latex mattress. Which companies offer full size adjustable beds?

  6. Tony

What about Tempurpedic beds? They seem to have a few adjustable models as well. They also have plenty of Tempurpedic mattresses to suit any soft, medium or firm preference

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Tony,
Tempur-pedic has 4 adjustable beds; Tempur-Ease, Tempur-Ergo Power, Tempur-Ergo Smart and Tempur-Ergo Extend. The first one is the most basic model while the Tempur-Ergo Extend is the most advanced bed with features we endorse like pillow tilting, perfect seat, sleep tracking, automatic head raising in response to snoring etc. etc. However, there are 3 things on which this base lost points on our scoring system. One is the price. The split-king model costs $4000. That is $2300 more expensive than our current #1 bed. Secondly, it has only a handful reviews even as of this moment. Even those are on their own website and none on third party websites like amazon. Thirdly, sleep tracking and automatic anti-snoring adjustments mean sensitive electronics that can go wrong. With such technology, it’s always best to skip the first generation and to wait for the 2nd generation at least.

Above are the places where the Tempur-Ergo Extend smart adjustable base lost points on our rating system. I just realized that we have not done a detailed Tempur-Ergo extend review yet. We’ll get on to that soon!

Hope that helps you make the right decision!

  7. Karmon

I see that you have not reviewed Saatva beds. I saw several other reviews that rating Saatva Lineal as top rated bases. May I know the reason behind that please?

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Karmon,

Thank you for your question. The Saatva Lineal is a decent adjustable bed. However, it didn’t reach our top 10 because it scored poorly in scoring system. It lost points for lack of pillow tilting, lumbar support, furniture-style decking, expensive price tag etc. While our #1 rated base costs about $1700 for a split king adjustable bed, the Saatva Lineal costs around $2500.

      Hope this helps!

  8. Belinda Palmer

    All the best Shani!
Would love to hear a review from you once you’ve used them both for awhile!
Stay safe and all the best for the rest of 2020 and beyond!

  9. Shani Romick

I appreciate your insights. Not looking to over-spend, but need a great mattress and these last a long time.
We will try the Sleep Number I8 — hope they stick to their “try it 100 days” and return for full refund if we don’t like it!

    All the best!

  10. Belinda Palmer

    Hi Shani,

Great to hear that you have purchased a DM9000s split king bed frame. Hope you will enjoy it for years and years to come.

Because adjustable mattresses like Sleep Number, iSense and Air-Pedic have a LOT of sensitive electronics involved, I would personally go with the industry-leading brand, which is Sleep Number, if the price was not an issue. The Sleep Number i8 has some high-end specs like the following:

    • Responsive Air™ technology (your sleeping position and movements will be ‘sensed’ by the mattress and automatically adjust its firmness for optimum support, all while you’re fast asleep)
    • SleepIQ™ Technology (a sleep tracking technology that tracks your heart rate, movements and how well (or not) you sleep and gives you a ‘Sleep Score’.
    • Temperature Balancing (the mattress keeps the sleeping temperature constant and ‘balanced’ by absorbing or releasing heat)

I think both Air-Pedic and iSense have some kind of a cooling mechanism, but from what I know, they’re not as advanced as those on Sleep Number mattresses.

Also you need to understand that a more complicated mattress means a higher chance of things breaking down !!

As for size, whether it is DM9000s or any other adjustable base, when you go above 13-14 inches, you have two limitations. (1) Mattress will flex, but may not follow the contour of the base 100%. (2) The massage vibration will feel less stronger than through a thinner mattress.

This is why we always recommend for you to personally ‘feel’ these mattresses in store especially if you’re going for high-end, expensive mattresses. If you’re buying them online, there is always a little bit of a gamble 🙂

I’m pretty sure that you have done your homework well enough by now, to make the correct educated decision!

    Hope this was helpful!

    All the best!

  11. Shani Romick

    Hello again,

Thank you for your help selecting the adjustable base! DM9000s split king arriving next week! For mattress: We were considering split king (full split) SLeep Number mattress I8 and I10…
    1. what is the max mattress thickness that will work well with the DM9000s split king base?
    2. You mentioned Sleep Number competetors: ISense and also I found Air-Pedic ( …. their high end mattresses are 14 or 14.5 inches thick (too thick for DM9000s?)- has individual lumbar air pockets.
We like features like all made in USA, no bad chemicals, treated, etc.
Question: are you familiar with both brands? are they really close to SLeep number? worth trying? reputable?
    Thanks for any insights!

  12. Benjamin

Thanks for taking the time to do this mammoth review. I really appreciate your efforts and I wish other reviewers invested this much time on theirs be it beds, mattresses, computers and phones.

I have a limited budget and I love the Milemont you have recommended. It does everything and more I want from an adjusting bed frame.

  13. Belinda Palmer

    Hi Shan,

Thank you for the kind words about our website!

Yes, the Dynasty Mattress DM9000s would go very well with the Sleep Number i8. Please make sure that you read our Sleep Number bed reviews and be sure to read about the pros and cons of Sleep Number beds as well as specifically the classic series vs performance series vs innovation series comparison. If you can afford an innovation series mattress, also make sure i8 is what suits you best out of i7, i8, iLE and i10.

Yes there is an alternative to Sleep Number. See this comparison for details. It’s from a brand called iSense. They’re much cheaper than the i8, but have similar features. iSense also gives a 180 day free trial, free shipping, free returns etc. etc.

Hope that helps and thank you again for the wonderful words!

  14. Shan Romick

So glad I found your website. 😉
We were also considering a sleep number bed –we like the mattress features for split-king – the mattress technology seems good for pressure, changeable, cooling, etc.
I noticed and figured it out better with your help, that their bases lack many good features… and so expensive! ;/
How do you feel about using your top pick base with their new innovation series I8 mattress?
Do you know if they warranty their mattress with other bases? Will talk to them, but asking you first!
and- is there another mattress you love that is split king, can have different and adjustable settings on each side, etc?

  15. Reagan

Do you have a point of view around Puffy and Ghost adjustable bases?

  16. Belinda Palmer

    Hi Alena,

Thank you for the great question!

Winkbeds, Yaasa, Rize and Bear are very similar adjustable beds in that the bed platform is made of 4-5 independent sections. It helps bring the weight down and the mechanics simpler.

We have nothing against the Winkbeds adjustable frame other than the fact that it is more expensive than the iDealBed 4i which is cheaper yet more feature rich. For example, the iDealBed 4i Custom has massage and USB ports (Winkbeds don’t) and 4 memory positions on the remote (Winkbeds has only 2). Although it’s not a deal breaker for me personally, IdealBed 4i also has Under-bed lighting which can be a useful feature. So I would personally opt for the IdealBed 4i over the Winkbeds base.

    Hope that helps!

  17. Alena Duane

Any thoughts on the Winkbeds adjustable base?

  18. Belinda Palmer

    Hi again Bob,

If Acid Reflux is your primary concern, don’t forget to check out the D7500s model. It may not have a ton of reviews, but at least another model from that company has a ton of good reviews.

You have a great and safe labor day weekend as well!

  19. Bob Wallace

Thank you Belinda for your quick response. I have acid reflux so I was leaning towards the Odessa, but not at the cost of a chemical smell or reliability. So I’m hoping the Malouf S755 with just the back incline will be good enough to help with the acid reflux. I have read a couple of customer reviews on the Malouf S755 that are very positive.

Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend!

  20. Belinda Palmer

    Hi Bob,

We absolutely love the Malouf S755 (currently on sale here). It has all the bells and whistles we recommend. We just have two concerns right now. It’s EXPENSIVE and it still doesn’t have a sufficient number of consumer reviews. We typically wait to see at least 20 consumer reviews before we recommend an adjustable bed. We don’t see that yet on any of the independent sites. Trust me, we’re dying to promote it to our top 10 list; but holding back because of the above two reasons.

As for the Odessa, again, we love the feature rich bed, but the Glideaway brand has accrued some negative comments over the last couple of years. You can check Amazon reviews and you’ll see what I mean. Some people talk about “a really strong chemical smell”, “poor customer service” etc. etc. If it wasn’t for these, I’d love to recommend the Odessa too!

Hope that was helpful and please do keep us posted on what you end up purchasing!
    Stay safe!

  21. Bob Wallace

    Good morning Belinda,

Are you familiar with Malouf adjustable bed frames? Im interested in both the Malouf S755 and Glideaway Odessa with lift feature. Not sure which way to go. I’ve read that Malouf has the best iPhone / iPad app.

    Thank you,

  22. Belinda Palmer

    Good morning Belinda !!
What a pleasant surprise indeed to wake up to a call from Belinda 🙂
First, thank you for your generous comment about our reviews. Yes, we try to go that extra mile.
Secondly, as far as we’re aware, there is only one model of Nectar adjustable bases and it is an entry-level to mid-level base. It works great for those who don’t want the fancy specs, but if you’re looking for some premium features like pillow tilting articulation, lumbar support, furniture style upholstered decking etc., this won’t work I’m afraid.

Good luck with your adjustable bed hunt and do let us know if you need any other clarifications.

  23. Belinda

    Hi Belinda,
What a beautiful name you have 🙂 This is a fantastic review; just what I was looking for and more.
I read somewhere that the Nectar adjustable bed was the best in 2020 but now I see it is not. Are there any other more advanced models of the Nectar bed frame that are better than the one listed on your comparison? If the answer to the above question is no, I’ll be buying the dynasty mattress adjustable foundation with any labor day sales there might be.

  24. Belinda Palmer

Thank you for those words Sandra, we really appreciate that. As you’re probably aware, Sleep Number FlexFit adjustable bases are extremely expensive and together with the mattress, can come up to $10,000. Also, they lack many of the premium features like pillow tilt, lumbar support etc. etc. Thus, the Sleep Number bases didn’t score high marks on our marking scheme to make it to the top 10.

    Hope that clarifies the matter!
Feel free to shoot us with any other questions you may have!
Have a great day and stay safe!

  25. Sandra Shoemaker

Great research, but wondering why you do not include the Sleep Number beds in your comparisons?

  26. Belinda Palmer

Thank you for the kind words Micheal. Hope you have found your dream bed by now. Feel free to shoot us an email if you have any questions!

  27. Micheal

This is so awesome! I don’t suppose I have read through anything like this review before.
So great to find somebody with some unique thoughts on these motion beds. Really, many thanks for the comparison tables. I would have bought a totally worthless adjustable mattress and bed if it wasn’t for you guys. I’m still not done. I’ll probably take the next two days to digest all this!

  28. John, Hudson Valley

Wow Belinda, this page just may be the best research source currently on the web for adjustable beds.

I have read your other two comments comments regarding the Rize Avadia, and I noticed the same thing in regarding the mattress not bending enough to conform to the frame. I wanted to pick your brain on a possible exception, because I really want to like this frame, but it is a LARGE investment.

My purple mattress is surprisingly floppy, almost as though the whole thing were made of gel. Have you used/moved one of these before and do you think a mattress as floppy as this would properly bend to conform to this frame?

My real concern is an utter lack of reviews for this Model or even brand. I see they were called Mantua up until a year ago and Mantua says they’ve been around for 60 years, but I would expect them to have a better online reputation if they were a decent brand. Instead it seems (in my brief search) like they sold almost exclusively through Mattress Firm which doesn’t make me feel any better.

I’m going to go through your guide again, see if I can’t find something to ease my aching back.

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi John,
Wow, thank you for those words; that means a lot to our team!
I know you perfectly understand what I’m saying about one’s feet NOT being heavy enough to push the mattress down in the decline position. But for future readers’ benefit, I’ll post the image below.Rize Aviada Adjustable Bed Inversion Decline Motion

You can see that the mattress sticks horizontally while the base is pointing towards the floor. But then this is a thick mattress of around 12-14″. However, like you say, a floppy mattress might work.

You can do a simple test at home to find out if your mattress works (since you already own it). Pull it out about 2 feet over the foot board of the bed and see what happens. Does the sticking out part remain horizontal or does it hang down? If the former, sleep on it and place your feet on it and see if the weight of your feet/legs pushes the mattress down. If it does, you have a winner and we would love to post a photo of that on Bedroom Solutions!

I hope this answers your question. Yes, the lack of sufficient number of reviews on independent sites (like amazon, walmart, overstock etc. etc.) is a concern!!

Hope our answer has been helpful and thank you again for stopping by our review page.

  29. Brittany

    Hi Belinda, Brittany here again.

Sorry to bother you again. Wanted to get your opinion. I’ve decided to do two different twin XL bases to encompass a majority of the features I need since I already ordered a split king bed. As you can imagine, my beds wear out 3x faster since I’m in them 23.5 hours a day.

What is your opinion of Reverie and Rize? I am considering the Rize Aviada as it has head and foot decline for spine stretching, something which would be quite advantageous to me. Another base I am considering is the Reverie 650- it has two way tilt instead of just one way elevation, though it lacks the head tilt of the 7500 from Dynasty.

The Aviada is quite unique and appears to have the quality of finish I prefer. While warranty is nice, seeing so many manufacturers not standing behind their longer warranties is making me come to the conclusion I will likely end up repairing the beds myself, which is no issue for me. So instead I will focus on getting the maximum features possible.

I loved the Glidewell BUT a huge caveat is their weight limits are deceiving until you read the fine print. Their limit is 800lb for both sides of a split king and just 400lb for a Twin XL. Forcing those motors to operate at the higher end of their limitations is a major cause for concern no matter how much I like the bed and I suspect that could be the cause of their quality issues when other manufacturers are pushing and sometimes exceeding 1000lb limits.

The combos I’m considering, I do realize I lose something I want no matter what I buy as no one makes the ultimate bed. I’m open to any and all suggestions and have even been looking at some German and Swedish bases.

    Dynasty 9500 & 7500
    Reverie 650 & Rize Aviada
    Rise Aviada & Kingsdown Epitome
    Rise Aviada & Dynasty 9500

Basically I want every feature on the lists you’ve written here that aren’t easy to add myself (such as underbed lights or USB ports which are maybe $20 total to add myself.) I only need each feature on one base so I can roll over if my pain requires a specific function.

    Pillow tilt
Elevation / Inversion (can use elevation only bed as inversion by lying backwards)
Lumbar (but my mattress is the ReST bed so I can increase its lumbar section as well, I may still want more though)
Spine stretching/traction (foot and head decline- Aviada)

These are all important to me. There isn’t an elevation mattress with lumbar and pillow tilt which is a bummer I guess it’s a matter of choosing what I will use the least.

Thanks for helping me out with this- can I buy from you since you’ve been such a resource?

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Brittany,

Sorry, I had to attend a family emergency and likely, my answer is of no use now! I apologize again for my delay!

Let me tell you that your idea about buying two different Twin-XL bases is ingenious 🙂 Way to go girl!!

About the head and foot decline of the Rize bed – I also personally thought this was really cool. I can’t comment on the ‘spine stretching’ effect, as I’m no medical person. But I’ll tell you something one of my friends experienced recently. Even though the base declines, the mattress doesn’t always follow the foundation. She said that her body weight couldn’t create enough of a force/weight to make the mattress ‘decline’. Even on the videos I’ve seen, they demonstrate this either without a mattress or whenever there is a mattress, there is a long hanging sheet covering the mattress so that you can’t see what’s actually going on under the sheets 🙂 This is NOT destructive criticism, if you see a video where the mattress has flexed downwards with a glove-like fit with the Rize Aviada frame, please send it my way as I’m dying to see one myself!! IMO, only a thin and flimsy foam mattress would work with the decline motion of the Rize foundation. Alternatively, you’ll need to tie the mattress down to the base with some mattress ties so that it will get pulled down! Let me know what you find out.

Yes, the 2-way tilting of the Reverie 650 is cool indeed. For a long time, we had several Reverie beds like the 8Q and 9T in our list of best adjustable brands; however, as they lacked this feature or that feature whereas others introduced more feature-rich models, they lost points and rankings. Your decision about the Reverie 650 will depend on what you want most; pillow tilt or backward tilt (Trendelenburg position).

The Kingsdown Epitome looks really cool as well. I have never heard of this brand though; so please do your research if you decide to buy this.

I hope I have been helpful and all I expect in return is a thank you note 🙂

Sorry again this is coming like 10 days too late!

  30. Nathan

Thank you for the reply, Belinda.

I just wanted to clear up a common misconception here. BBB reviews [are not used]( when determining a business’s BBB rating.

What is used are the [Complaints]( and if/how the business responds to them. Dynasty does not respond to the complaints and they are therefore left unresolved. The majority of the complaints deal with the warranties not being honored.

While I agree that complaints can also be manipulated to slander/bash a business, this doesn’t appear to be the case with Dynasty. We are very concerned ordering mattresses and bases online because we’ve been burned by other companies already and none of the reviews we’ve been able to find even touch on the company’s customer service or integrity.

  31. Jack & Boss Lady Lisa

I’m baaaack with the last question or two. Why is the D7500 more expensive than the MD9000 which seems to have a few more bells and whistles, and if purchased on Amazon there’s no white glove delivery/setup?
Last question; are these manufactured in the US. We’re keeping away from buying anything from China.
Thank you for all your expert advice and recommendations.
    Lisa & Jack
PS: yes I meant to write Glideaway verses Slideaway in the previous comment….I’m like a scratch record in a grove I can’t get out 🙂

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Nathan,
Thank you for your comment. I have no intention of defending DynastyMattress; I would, if I owned the company 🙂
Please also understand that I have the ability to ‘NOT publish’ your comment; but I chose to publish your comment because Bedroom Solutions has always been honest and transparent.
Again, my intention is NOT to defend DynastyMattress but to share my 2 cents as facts. Visitors of this site are educated and smart enough to make their own judgements.

      • First of all, the D rating is based on these customer reviews which are essentially on mattresses, not the bed frame.
      • Unfortunately, there is a lot of competition among different mattress manufacturers/dealers (I presume it might be the same with other industries) and it is NOT uncommon for competitors to leave fake negative feedback. This is the sad reality and I have witnessed many such instances in the last decade or so we’ve been in the bed/mattress industry
      • As such, not only the negative reviews, but even the positive reviews on the above page, are unreliable and have the same probability of being fake
      • Unfortunately, BBB rating can be manipulated and BBB don’t always get it right. Don’t take my word, read this article by CNN titled “Slammed by the government, A-rated by the Better Business Bureau
      • Here’s another example that concludes “Since honest merchants and dishonest ones receive about the same inflated ratings and the application of ethics by the merchants is not required, the BBB cannot be trusted. I wish they could be.

Let me reiterate, my intention was not to defend DM, but to show the readers that BBB doesn’t always get it right. I hope this was educational 🙂 and I trust that our visitors will make the right call!

Thank you again for stopping by Bedroom Solutions!

  32. Nathan

I think it should be known that your #1 rated adjustable bed, the DM9000s, is sold by Dynasty Mattress. That company currently holds a D- rating with the Better Business Bureau. They do not appear to stand by their warantees or guarantees and will cease communication with customers if they lodge a complaint. Several of the complaints deal with defective products that never get resolved.

I believe that Customer Service should be one of your #1 rating factors, as we very nearly purchased that base but are now terrified to do so.

  33. Brittany

Thank you Belinda! I will give them a call tomorrow and hopefully resolve my questions.

My suspicion is the model number corresponds to the features so it likely has the features of the other 7000-series beds. Too bad they don’t have the 9000 with elevation LOL! I’ll let you know what I purchase. It does look like I’ll lose wall hugging though

Thanks again for your hard work. I’ve referred to this website more than any others in my research.

    • Belinda Palmer

@Brittany, Great to hear that we’ve been helpful. Please let us know what you find out. Correct, I too suspect that this model doesn’t come with wall hugging. However, be aware that with Elevation Lift, you’re anyway going to lose a bit of wall hugging!

Good luck and looking forward to hearing from you soon!

      • Belinda Palmer

Hi again Lady Lisa and Jack the boss 🙂 No pun intended 🙂
Why the D7500 is more expensive? Elevation lift requires an extra motor and a lot of mechanics that go with it that have to lift the entire weight of the sleepers and the mattress. With head tilt and foot tilt, only part of the body/mattress is being lifted. I also presume the relatively limited number of units sold/produced makes the price more expensive ?? Just guessing!!
Where is it made? I’m afraid you’re not going to like the answer here. It is indeed made in China!! The Amerisleep, ranked as the most luxurious and highest quality bed, is made in the USA. However, it doesn’t have the Elevation Lift that the D7500s or the Slideaway has 🙁

Do keep us posted on what you purchase and we would be happy to publish a detailed review of it, if you’re game for it!

Stay safe and wish you luck to make the right call!

  34. Brittany

Your page has been the most in depth analysis of adjustable bases I’ve found.

I have a somewhat unique situation as I am bedridden 23/7 at a minimum. My pain levels on average are at 8.5 (spinal and pelvis) and I’ve recently decided on the Rest bed.

I’m presently between the two Dynasty models, the 9500 and 7500s. The elevation will be wonderful for reflex but also to turn myself around and use as inversion. I am a side/half stomach sleeper so this seems to be the best of all worlds. However, I am not seeing much info on the 7500s anywhere. Does it have independent head tilt? I have to measure my bed frame to be sure it will fit. I just want to be sure I am not losing any important features to gain elevation. The Glideaway reviews are disconcerting. I do wish it had Alexa but I can program a Pi to do that work for me.

My most major concern with any adjustable base is pets going under the bed. Is there any adjustable base on the market where the motors and pinch points are entirely enclosed? I can make modifications if necessary but it would be nice if someone offered a completely safe option considering the cost of these split king units.

    Thanks so much

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Brittany,

Thank you for those words girl, they mean the world to us!

Those numbers you mention frighten me, but your attitude and courage get our highest respect and admiration! If I can help make those numbers any better by answering your questions, that would indeed make my day!

The D7500s has Elevation Lift, but has no Lumbar Support. The DM9000s has Lumbar Support, but has no Elevation Lift. Given your spinal and pelvic conditions, Lumbar Support is probably not a good idea (you’ll need to get that clarified by a medical professional though). That’s why I’m thinking that in your case, the DynastyMattress D7500s holds the edge over the DM9000s.

Yes indeed, the GlideAway Ascend, Elevation or Odessa would have been great too, if only the consumer reviews have been encouraging (like you have rightly said).

I will be the first to admit that I don’t know whether the 7500s has independent pillow tilting or not. This page has all the dimensions you need and a customer service number. If you want me to call them and ask, I’d be happy to do that for you. But, I feel that if you make the call yourself, you’ll be able to clarify all the different questions you have.

Regarding pinch points, Leggett & Platt used to have an awesome (on paper) bed that had a feature called ‘LP Sense’ which basically stops lowering if it senses anything under the bed. Unfortunately, this ‘awesome’ bed never made a good impression on the buyers or the reviewers and has now been discontinued. You may be able to find one in stock somewhere, but I advice you against buying a model the manufacturer doesn’t support anymore. Besides, this model didn’t have elevation lift, which I think is of primary importance to you. Serta and Ergomotion also make ‘minimal/zero-pinch point’ adjustable bases, but none of them have elevation lift either.

Like you say, probably the best option is for you to take preventive measures yourself (extra long bed skirt; heavy comforter; nightstand etc. to prevent pets from crawling under the bed).

In conclusion, our advice is that you go with the D7500s from DM. Sure, the D7500 doesn’t have any customer reviews yet, but based on the reviews on the DM9000s, I think it’s fair to assume that the manufacturer is reliable and the product will not disappoint you.

I hope I have addressed your questions Brittany. Please feel free to get in touch with me should you need any further clarifications.
Our team wishes you a speedy recovery and all the very best for the rest of 2020 and beyond!

  35. Jack & Boss Lady Lisa

Great article on adjustable beds, thank you, thank you!
My wife and I are in need of an adjustable bed and are in need of a Split-King. She has GERD and I’m a side sleeper.
We are leaning toward the Slideaway because of our sleeping issues and wanted to know why Slideaway was not included in your review. We find shelling out this amount for a bed we have not seen is causing some hesitancy. We currently have a Numbers bed which I’ve had since 2007 with no problems other than one motor replacement, their current models do not address our issues. We are both not sping chickens at 70, or 35 twice as we like to refer ourselves.
Bottom-line: do you have any analysis, opinions, or thoughts on the Slideaway beds?
Much thanks for your time to respond and once again superb article.

    • Belinda Palmer

Hi Jack and Lady Lisa !!

Thank you for stopping by Bedroom Solutions. I really appreciate your words; it means a lot to our dedicated team of writers and reviewers!!

First of all, congrats for the great level of understanding you have on this adjustable technology. ‘Elevation Lift’ is the best option for GERD regardless of your sleeping position and especially so, if you’re a side sleeper!! If you haven’t seen our Glideaway review on, you can read more on why the Reverse Trendelenburg Position afforded by Elevation Lift works best for slide sleepers and acid reflux.

I presume you mean Glideaway when you say Slideaway ?? 🙂

We listed Glideaway in our Top 7 for a long time; but recently removed for the following reasons.

      1. Consumer reviews are NOT great on Amazon. Check the reviews for Odessa and Elevation models on Amazon: Less than 50% 5-star reviews. Please read these reviews before you purchase
      2. They have limited sizes: Especially on the Glideaway Elevation; they don’t have the regular split-king. So, if you already have the mattresses or the bed frame, what do you do? They only have the Split California King size available for this particular model
      3. The model we recommend, the D7500s bed with elevation lift is much cheaper than the Glideaway beds.

Why don’t you call this company and ask about the warranty etc. before you make your final decision!! I believe it comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and you can get white glove delivery etc. also, if you wish!!

Thank you again for your kind words and the question. Feel free to ask us anything if you need further clarifications!

Have a great day and stay safe!

  36. Gloria

Can you explain about the zero clearance feature a little bit more please?

    • Belinda Palmer

Hi Gloria, thanks for the question. We have explained it above, but let me go through that again for you. Basically, because of the various mechanics under the adjustable bed platform, you need clearance under it. In other words, you can’t keep it on the floor or on a storage/platform bed; you need clearance under it!
But with zero-clearance beds, you don’t need that clearance under it. All the mechanical components stay on top of the bed, not under it, so that it can be kept on the floor or on a platform bed.

Hope that is clear! There is an animation at the top of the page explaining the same also!
Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions!

  37. Tiffany

Belinda, this is wonderful info. I would love to purchase a dynasty mattress which is your best model. However, since I’m familiar with the Layla brand for the longest time, I like to go with the Layla adjustable bases. Can you please tell me exactly what the Layla lacks in comparison to the dynasty mattress? The differences will decide which brand I will eventually go with.

Thank you for your time and best wishes to keep doing what you’re doing

    • Belinda Palmer

Thank you Glova, the encouragement we get from people like you is what keeps us going (among other things).

We really appreciate you stopping by!

  38. Glova

All I can say is wow! I have no questions or complaints because you have addressed everything there is to address about adjustable beds. Great info.

  39. Pam

I absolutely love your reviews. I’m not sure I understand this right and would be grateful if you could clarify this for me please.
I’m a side sleeper. From what I’ve been told, I sleep 100% on my side, mostly on my right and sometimes on my left. Lately I’ve been having a few back and respiratory issues and doc says that it would be best if I can sleep elevated. What I don’t understand is if I can sleep elevated on an adjustable bed. If I raise the top section on the bed, will my back pain get worse when sleeping on the side?
Thank you again Belinda for the wornderful reviews.

    • Belinda Palmer

You’re very correct in saying that you can’t sleep inclined on your side on a regular adjustable bed. You need a special adjustable bed to sleep elevated on your side. Originally produced by Glideaway, (Glideaway Elevation, Ascend, Odessa, Vesta etc.) a new type of adjustable foundation lets you incline your whole body from head to toe without bending it in half at the waist. We actually recommend the DynastyMattress D7500 (link on the table at the top of the page) over the Glideaway series because Glideaway models have been accumulating a few bad reviews over the last couple of years.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to bring up any other questions you may have!

      • Belinda Palmer

You are very correct in saying that Layla is a great brand and you have all the reason to purchase a Layla base for your mattress. Since you asked, the DM9000s has many extra features compared to the Layla (pillow tilt, lumbar support, furniture style upholstered decking, storage bed compatibility) and is cheaper as well. That’s why the DM9000s scored a lot more points compared to the Layla frame and was ranked #1 and #4 respectively.

However, if you’re confident that you don’t need the above features and you don’t mind paying extra because you really want to stick to the Layla brand, that’s a totally justifiable decision. I’ve done that many times personally with a certain kitchen appliance brand and I’ve been happy with that decision for over 7 years now 🙂

        Hope that helps!

  40. Mandy

Is there a cheaper option for heartburn? I don’t need adjusting beds.

  41. Neil

Excellent collection of beds. I have a chronic ligament strain on my lower lumbar region and want to know if I should go for a bed with or without lumbar support.

    Appreciate your time

      Hi Neil,

I’m afraid I’m not authorized to give you medical advice and therefore am reluctant to give you my personal opinion on that. You should talk to your orthopedic surgeon but when you meet him make sure you take a brochure or iPad with you to show him how the lumbar support works. Some doctors may not be aware of these features and may not have an idea about what lumbar support is.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

      Best of luck!

  42. Stephan

You say Amerisleep is your best adjustable mattress. How many mattresses did you compare to come to that conclusion?

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Stephan,

Sorry, I missed this earlier. Extremely good and valid question. What we say actually is that Amerisleep is the most luxurious bed and mattress combo. Unlike adjustable beds, there are 1000s of mattresses and it is not possible for us to compare all of those. This is why I have recommended for people to physically try out the mattresses at the local mattress store before buying them (to several people answering their questions on comments) online. For mattresses, all we can do is look at the specs and customer reviews.

      Hope that answers your question.

  43. Hannah

I was searching for adjusting bed info for 6 hours continuously Googling and at last I got the info on your site. I have already ordered the Milemont budget friendly frame and can’t wait to receive it in my new apartment. Hopefully it doesn’t get shipped with COVID 🙂

  44. Cherry Dix

Hi there! This review couldn’t have been done any better! It is probably the best review I have read on anything related to furniture. This reminds us of my old craftmatic foundation we had about 15-20 years ago. After it started giving trouble, we went back to a good old Elizabethen four poster bed. Having read this electrical bed review, we both feel like it’s time to go ‘electric’ again, especially since the ‘bed technologies’ seems to have improved immensely. I’m sure we will have many questions for you in the near future.
Again, congratulations for a fantastic job!

    • Belinda Palmer

Thank you for the wonderful comment Cherry. Yes, adjustable beds have indeed improved specs-wise, durability-wise, reliability-wise etc. etc. yet with the price becoming cheaper.

I look forward to your questions and would be happy to clarify them for you to the best of my knowledge!

      Stay safe, stay indoors!

  46. Clint

does 4 legs vs 6 legs make a difference

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Clint,

If I had the choice, I would prefer 4 legs over 6 because that would mean less clutter. The only reason some models come with 6 legs these days is because of easy assembly. These electric bases are basically shipped in two halves; when you put these two halves together, you need the extra pair of legs in the middle to bear the weight. If there were only 4 legs, then the side frames had to come in a single piece which makes ‘easy, no tools assembly’ complicated. This is why bed manufacturers have resorted to 6 legs.

      Hope that makes sense!
      Have a great day!

  47. Megan

Wow, to say that this is an amazing adjustable bed review would be an understatement. I learned so much and the way I see them (I used to call them motion beds) now is dramatically different to how I saw them 3 hours ago. I had no idea they had all these high-tech specs.
I have one small question. What is a storage bed adjustable base? The electric base comes with drawers? I’ll be moving to a smaller apartment in July and a storage bed can be really handy.

  48. Bob

Actually I have a 2nd question, for the ones made in China, how does the warranty work? The electric bases have to be sent back to China for repairs?

  49. Bob

Appreciate the detailed reviews. Why not include the country of manufacture in your tables so that we know whether they’re made in the USA or made in China.

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Bob,

Sorry I have missed your 2 questions. Let me try to answer them below.

Well most of these adjustable beds are made in China at least in part. The manufacturers advertise them as ‘Designed in the USA’. If you see that you should know that most likely such models are ‘Made in China’ (or outside the USA). Out of the bases we have listed at the time of writing this, only the Amerisleep (Leggett & Platt Prodigy 2.0) is being designed, engineered and manufactured in the USA. Most others are manufactured in China and imported to the USA. However, some of these will have motors designed and/or manufactured in the USA or Germany.

I don’t claim to know all the details when it comes to this topic, but what I mention here stands true for the majority of adjustable bed brands.

For the Chinese-made beds, you don’t have to send them to China. The US contact/distributor typically has a specialist team to take care of that. Some of the companies we have listed above even provide in-home repair services during their warranty period. That’s a huge relief for most of us 🙂

Hope you learned something new from my answer!
Have a great day and stay safe!

  50. Jacquie

I appreciate the large number of explanatory illustrations and video reviews. I was looking for a simple reclining bed but you have convinced me that I need pillow tilting, wall hugging and customizable memory 🙂 About wall hugging: the idea is that I will not go past the bedside table, correct? I’m also thinking of upgrading my good ol’ spring mattress to a high quality adjustable mattress. The one I have fallen in love with is a plush, 14″, adjustable bed compatible, gel memory foam mattress (as seen on Now I understand wall hugging takes you back about 8 – 11 inches for different motion beds. Something tells me that if my mattress is already 14 inches thick, the wall hugging becomes obsolete.

Am I thinking in the right direction? Or is it twisted like my BF says? (just kidding) Hope you understand what I’m trying to explain.

    • Belinda Palmer

      Hi Jacquie,

I think you have grasped the concept of wall hugging to perfection 🙂 You’re absolutely right, the thicker the mattress, the further away you will be from your nightstand. With a 14 inch mattress, yes, you’re going to be pushed about 18-24 inches from your headboard. Fortunately, some nightstands are about 2 feet in breadth and you still wouldn’t have to stretch back too much. Another solution is to place your nightstand about 6 inches in front of the wall/headboard to compensate for the ‘forward drift’.

True, wall hugging can’t compensate for the entire 14 inches of thickness. But with 8″ of wall hugging, you kind of gain 8″ of the 14″ lost due to the mattress and you’ll actually lose only 6 inches. But without wallhugger engineering, you’ll lose all 14 inches.

Another issue with thick mattresses is the ‘barrier’ it creates for massaging. The massage waves will traverse an 8 inch mattress much better than a 14 inch mattress. You just need to weigh in the pros and cons of a thick mattress before you make the final call!

Thanks again for the excellent question and feel free to stop by if you need any further clarifications!

2nd Runner-up Mid-Range Adjustable bed frame – Amerisleep Plus bed

Amerisleep Adjustable Bed Plus

Amerisleep Plus Adjustable Base

The Amerisleep Plus is a highly rated adjustable bed frame in the 2023 market. It has been ranked as the #1 bed by several online reviews of adjustable beds, however, it failed to get that top ranking in our scientific ratings.

As a mid-range base, it obviously doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the DM9000s. However, it is a fairly decent mid-range adjustable bed with very good upholstery finishes. This costs approximately $350 more than the DM9000s for a split-king adjustable bed frame. Nevertheless, it is a very popular adjustable base brand given its high quality construction and upholstery finishes and the company that is behind the product.

It also offers several additional specs via its Bluetooth app such as a connectivity via the Amazon Alexa app and Google home . In summary, if you value product quality over the variety of specs on offer, the Amerisleep adjustable bed+ is what you need. The company is also known for their excellent customer service. Amerisleep also offers a range of high-quality adjustable mattresses for different budgets.

The Amerisleep is inferior to the DM9000s in the following aspects:

  1. No Pillow Tilting
  2. No Wall Hugger engineering
  3. No Lumbar bar support
  4. No Furniture-style Decking
  5. No Bluetooth speakers
  6. Not a Zero-Clearance model (can’t store anything underneath the bed)
  7. King dimensions are not available (non-split)
  8. California (neither split and nor non-split models) king sizes are also not available
  9. ~$350 more expensive than the DM base for a split type king sized bed

Major highlights of the Amerisleep bed plus:

  1. Head and Feet Massagers with pulse and wave massage modes (similar to the DM bed)
  2. Highly-reputed manufacturer
  3. Probably has the best upholstery finishes of all adjustable beds
  4. Comes with a 10-year limited warranty

Major Cons: The expensive price tag; lesser specs compared to the leading models.

  1. Fewer specs compared to the leading models.
  2. The expensive price tag: price range of the adjustable bed bases: $1350 – $2250

Recommended Mid-Range – GhostBed

Ghostbed base

Ghostbed Adjustable Frame

The Ghostbed adjustable base is a great option if all you want is a non-complicated, ‘bare bones’ adjustable base. We also recommend this for any buyer that is looking for base + mattress product bundles, Ghostbed offers you plenty of options and deals across the board.

Major specs of the Ghostbed adjustable platform

The Ghostbed adjustable base is an entry-level base with relatively few specs. The base comes with the following 3 out of the 10 most important features:

  1. One customizable memory position
  2. Head and feet massage
  3. Under-bed lights

Major Cons: No pillow tilting & not a wallhugger engineering

  1. No pillow tilting
  2. No wallhugger engineering
  3. No advanced features like lumbar support, furniture style decking etc.
  4. Price range: $900 – $1800

Convertible bed and mattress combo highlights (Ghostbed)

  1. Zero Gravity setting*, TV watching, Anti-Snore, Lounge and Flat factory pre-set memory settings

Top Convertible with an Aluminum Frame – Bear

Bear frame and mattress

Bear Aluminum Frame

Bear is a unique adjustable bed frame in that it comes with an aluminum frame which is really light weight. Obviously it comes from a trusted brand name. Bear manufactures some of the best mattresses in the current marketplace.

Major features of the Bear base

It has the following 4 most important features (out of top 10)

  1. Wall hugger bed
  2. The bed base comes with two programmable memory settings
  3. Under-bed lighting
  4. Storage-bed compatibility

What’s Lacking on the Bear?

  1. Six of the top 10 features are not available
  2. Only Queen, King and Split-King size adjustable bed frames are available
  3. At $1500 – $2200, this product is not cheap for the features offered

The aluminum structure makes it pretty lightweight compared to a solid metal structure. Therefore, this adjustable bed can be highly recommended for seniors shopping for an adjustable bed.

High-quality Sectional Foundation – Yaasa Bed Base

Yaasa Adjustable Base

Yaasa Adjustable Bed

Yaasa Studios bed base is very similar to the Bear power bed. The Yaasa adjustable bed too has an aluminum/ metal chassis and 4 wood-finish planks placed on it. The major difference is that the Yaasa base costs more than Bear’s adjustable beds. The Yaasa adjustable bed base has a beautiful white while the Bear is black in color. Personally, I find the white prettier, but when you put the mattress on, nobody know what color it was underneath..

The major pros and cons of the Yaasa bed base are as follows:

  1. Wall hugger base
  2. Two customizable memory positions
  3. Storage-bed friendly
  4. Two USB ports (one on each side of the bed; charge up to two devices at the same time)

CONS: The product is too pricey for the features available.

  1. Not all sizes are available (Twin XL, Queen, King and Split versions are available)
  2. Trial Period: None for the base. The 100 night trial period mentioned on the Yaasa website is for customers that purchase Yaasa mattresses.
  3. Yaasa White Glove Service available but expensive at $199 (free white glove delivery is hard to come by in this industry)
  4. At $1700 – $3200, the Yaasa adjustable bed is too pricey for the features available.

It is one of the best picks for anyone that likes the white color and the aluminum mounting

Best Entry-Level Base bed – IdleSleep

Idlesleep adjustable base

IdleSleep Adjustable Bed

The IdleSleep is our best adjustable bed in the budget-friendly, entry-level category. The queen size starts at around $750 and that is one hell of a deal. However, note that the IdleSleep only has Head tilting. There is no foot tilting.

The major features of the IdleSleep adjustable base

This is as ‘entry-level’ as it can get.

It doesn’t have any of our top 10 specs, as simple as a bed can get. Even the remote controller has only two buttons. You can’t ask for anything simpler than this.

All sizes are available except for California King. Even full size of the bed is available. Usually, bed frames that are this cheap don’t come with a warranty; but the IdleSleep comes with a 2-year warranty. You really can’t ask for more. Remember, this won’t work if you want to raise your feet for a condition like restless leg syndrome or leg swelling.

Major Cons of the Idlesleep bed base

It is a very basic base at an unbelievably inexpensive price point. At this price, there really are no cons.
Base Price Range (without mattress): $649 – $1098

Best Low-profile Entry-level base – Bed In A Box

Bed in a box adjustable base

Motion in A Box Adjustable Bed from ‘Bed in A Box’

You will notice that most adjustable bases in the entry level category are 4″ thick. In contrast, the Bed-in-A-Box is only 2″ thick. This is why the Bed in A Box is categorized as a ‘low-profile’ adjustable bed platform.

Pros and cons of the Motion-in-A-box adjustable base

The Motion in A Box from ‘Bed in A Box’ may have only 2 of the 10 elite features (two customizable memory positions and under-bed lighting). However, this mattress base offers great quality and value for the price. The Bed in A box bed bases are very popular given its relatively cheap pricing structure. This can be handy for someone that wants their bed to be low/ short. Thicker the bed profile, taller the bed will be. This is why this bed is most recommended for those who are looking for a low-profile adjustable bed base.

While it is highly recommended for the budget conscious customers, keep in mind that this mattress base lacks the following most recommended features:

  1. No pillow tilting
  2. No wallhugger engineering

Prices range from $600 – $1200
If you want to purchase a low profile design (base is thin compared to others like the Purple or the Nectar), the Motion-in-a-Box is one of the best entry-level adjustable beds of 2023. This is also the best price you can get on a twin XL size. This product is probably the best choice if you’re shopping for a low-profile and light weight adjustable bed. The low-profile also make this adjustable bed suitable for seniors. The light-weight as well as easy assembly make it easy to handle and maneuver by the elderly as well as anyone else.

How to Choose The Right Motorized Bed Frame?

If YOU had to select the bed yourself, this is what you’ll need to do:

  • Research not one, but a wide range of adjustable bed brands
  • Analyze features offered by each one of those adjustable bed frames
  • Identify the MUST-HAVE features for your bed
  • Analyze the manufacturer/ supplier/ brand reputation
  • Study consumer reviews for each bed
  • Compare specs, price point etc. etc. with other adjustable bases

That is what we have done at Bedroom Solutions so that you can benefit from our decades of experience in the sleep industry. Here’s the exact science that went into compiling this adjustable bed buyer’s guide.

Buyer’s Guide

Below we will give an overview of how we ranked the best adjustable beds; however, if you want to learn the detailed science of Bedroom Solutions’ ranking process, please go here. We initially analyzed 33 specs and 1200+ customer reviews from online reviewers on over 80 adjustable frames from different manufacturers. This analysis revealed the following 10 most useful and popular specs which we further categorized as shown below.

Top 10 Most Useful Specs
  1. Pillow Tilting: better head and neck adjustability when sitting up on the bed (work, read, or watch TV etc.). With head tilt alone, you cannot sufficiently straighten your upper body to watch TV. As one reviewer said, “Pillow tilting adjustments allow me to watch Netflix for hours at a stretch without the constant neck pain I used to have“. Independent pillow tilting can also be used to stop snoring of your spouse or yourself (just tilt this section by a few degrees for the anti-snoring function).
  2. Wall Hugging : provides an extra adjustment that keeps you next to the nightstand even when the upper section is raised. Thereby minimizes potential for spraining neck and back.
  3. Programmable Memory Positions: lets you program your own custom positions (at least one; ideally more than one position), so that you can go to your favorite lounging position for example, with a single click rather than meddling with multiple adjustments

To learn more about these 3 features, go here to watch 3 animations. These 3 are mandatory specs if your budget allows. If your adjustable bed base doesn’t have these 3, you’re missing a lot!!

3 Optional Specs
  1. Lumbar Support: this adjustment is for those who need extra back support for certain types of lower back pain. In addition to that, as one reviewer mentioned, it can also help fix existing mattress sagging.
  2. Furniture-style Decking: for those who like the gorgeous looks
  3. Elevation Lift: to prevent heartburn
4 Supplementary Specs
  1. Head and Foot Massage function: to relax and rest those tired muscles. As one reviewer perfectly said “Don’t expect a shiatsu massaging, it’s more like vibration, very soothing and I love it“
  2. Storage-bed Compatibility
  3. Height-adjustable Legs: this adjustment can raise or lower the bed as you please
  4. Under-bed Lighting

Price Range of Motorized Bed Bases

What decides price?

  1. Size – typically the price goes up from Twin XL to Full size to Queen size to King to Cal King to Split King
  2. Brand / Manufacturer
  3. Specs on offer – the most basic adjustable beds come with head tilt only (typically with a wired remote). These beds are the cheapest.
  4. Whether adjustable mattress is included or not
  5. Warranty coverage and period
  6. Whether white glove service is included or not

Before diving into buying an adjustable mattress base, many people would want to find out about the adjustable bed costs. This is important whether you’re it for the spouse (husband, wife or significant other), daughter, son or a couple. The cheapest and most basic adjustable beds start at little as $400 for a Twin XL base. Such models come at about $600 for a Queen size and $800 for a King size. Some examples for such beds are Bed In A Box, Lucid L100, Lucid L300, Blissfulnights, Classic Brands etc. However, you will notice that most of those names didn’t make it to our 10-best list because they lacked certain features we were looking for.

Fancier adjustable beds with modern functions can cost up to $1000 for a Twin XL, $1250-1500 for a Queen size and $1750 upwards for a Split type King base. The most expensive movable bed options in the market are the Sleep Number FlexFit 3 and the Tempur-pedic Tempur Ergo Extend that costs approximately $4000 for a split king bed frame (excluding mattresses). There are two cheaper Tempur-pedic adjustable bed frames by the names of Tempurpedic Tempur-Ergo Power Base and Tempurpedic Tempur-Ergo Smart Base. The Tempur-Ergo Smart bed has sleep tracker technology that tracks your sleeping behavior via an app.

Hospital bed type of adjustable beds also pricey in the 2023 market. Premium hospital bed brands (e.g. Hopeful, Wert, Invacare) with built-in side rails typically sell for upwards of $3,000 for a Twin XL size. You won’t get queen size or split versions for these hospital beds as they are almost exclusively used by single patients. Please note that these are not meant for exclusive use at hospitals. In additions to hospitals, they can be used at residences as well where there are seniors or other patients with mobility issues. Fortunately, these maybe covered by medicare through Medicare Part B.

Most of today’s retailers offer great deals on both adjustable beds and mattresses especially on credit card payments. This is a great relief for consumers not prepared to spend the entire price out of their pockets at once. Also take a close look at the different warranties offered by different retailers. Some offer warranties as long as 25 years, but such warranties give a very limited and pro-rated coverage.

A word of caution on price

Just because a particular bed frame is pricey, that doesn’t mean that it is a feature-rich adjustable base. For example, the Yaasa adjustable bed is relatively high-priced, yet has relatively few specs. Always check if the adjustable bed models have features like the zero gravity preset, massage settings, USB ports, and supports different sleeping positions. Take out your calculator and see if the investment is worthwhile compared to the specs it offers.

Certain adjustable bed companies have products with massage capabilities and functions with wireless remote but no foot tilting. Without foot tilting you can’t get certain sleeping positions. However, some adjustable bed companies have made sure that any sleep position can be adopted with their beds. Some retailers have partners in popular mattress manufacturers and together make entire sleep systems available. Most adjustable bed models have sleep systems which are essentially a base and mattress combo. Buying a complete sleep system (e.g. mattress) is sometimes cheaper than buying the base and mattress separately. You’re looking at an extra $100-200 for white glove services including delivery and setup.

Some retailers market their beds as a treatment option for chronic back pain. You should always consult a doctor to find out if your back pain (acute or chronic) can be fixed by an adjustable bed or not. Further, when you’re searching for online bed reviews, you should always check if they use a reasonable review system or not. Some reviewers simply give a ranking without a justifiable system. Before you decide that a particular adjustable bed brand is your best option, remember to check their phone number so that you can contact them if a technical issue comes up.

If you are a couple and are shopping for a split-queen or king, don’t forget to check for the “link” between the two twin-XL beds. Usually a USB or other cable will link the two bases together so that the two beds can be operated with a single wireless remote. If you are not sure about how to connect the two bases, always call the company using the phone number. In fact calling them might be an excellent way to get an idea about their customer service too.

Shoppers sometimes make purchasing decisions entirely based on the price. Some of the cheap adjustable beds in the 2023 marketplace have very poor warranties. Therefore, we request buyers to compare the different warranties offered by various companies when shopping for your dream bed.

Top Recommended Mattress Brands

Country Living is the Best Adjustable Mattress of 2021

Now you know how to choose an adjustable bed. How about the accessories? Are there any must-have accessories that can take your adjustable bed and sleep quality to the next level? Pillows and sheets are important, but we’re talking about something else here. As you know, even the best rated adjustable beds cannot give you the rest you deserve without the right type of mattress to complement it. If you already have a mattress, you may want to keep using it. However, if you need to purchase a new mattress, we highly recommend you get a proper mattress education so that you can buy the best mattress your money can afford. This is a very short adjustable mattress review where we will talk about the best mattresses very briefly.

Out of the many mattress types made of memory foam, latex, innerspring, water and air; latex, memory foam and air mattresses are considered the best mattresses for adjustable type of beds. Memory foam models tend to be a better choice since they offer the comfort and support that most people look for in a mattress. As you can imagine, in a water bed, all the water would flow to the bottom/foot, when raising the upper body in a water mattress. Conventional innerspring mattresses have rigid coil systems which cannot withstand the constant flexion and extension of the base. So it doesn’t flex as you change the angles of the bed frame’s head and foot. The best adjustable mattress you can purchase is one that is flexible and quickly returns to the normal state after the bed base returns to the flat position. Hybrid mattresses where coil springs have been individually wrapped also work. Unlike on innerspring mattresses, the coil springs are independent of each other on these modern spring mattresses.

Hybrid mattresses where coil springs have been individually wrapped also work. Unlike on innerspring mattresses, the coil springs are independent of each other on these modern spring mattresses.

Adjustable air beds from mattress companies like Sleep Number have the additional advantage of having different firmness levels according to the sleeper’s comfort preferences. Not only do these allow for different firmness options between the two sides but also on different regions of the same mattress. The comfort and support afforded by these are difficult to match (beware that they don’t come cheap though).

Your sleeping position is also something you need to consider before deciding on the mattress firmness level. A soft or plush mattress suits side sleepers best while a medium-firm mattress suits back sleepers best. The best firmness level for stomach sleepers is medium-firm to firm. However, there’s no denying that we all love to sleep on a plush mattress that sleeps cool. Newer mattresses have cooling gel infused into them which definitely helps during warm summer months. Based on sleep research, mattress companies will provide informational guides to help you decide which of their mattresses suits your sleeping behavior the best.

Popular Mattress Brands

As there is a wide range of memory foam and latex mattress brands, we won’t go into the exact models. We have other articles about best mattress brands and designs. However, now that you know which mattress type suits best, we’re confident that you will make the right decision with the brand and model when you’re shopping for your new adjustable mattress. We can recommend Nectar (12-month home trial and Forever warranty), Amerisleep, Layla, Loom & Leaf from Saatva, and DynastyMattress memory foam mattresses. Some of these top rated adjustable mattresses are manufactured by companies which also sell adjustable bed frames. If your existing mattress does not belong to the types we have explained above, you may want to purchase a new mattress. For any new bed adjustable or not, a new mattress can make a huge difference.

Remember, there’s nothing like a good night’s sleep that can boost your energy levels the following day! A word about white glove services for mattresses: with an electric bed frame, a white glove service with setup can be very important because most adjustable bed frames typically weigh over 100 pounds making it over 200 lbs for a split base. Carrying such a base upstairs and setting it up can be a daunting task to most buyers. However, with mattresses, this is not so critical because there is literally no ‘set up’. White glove services will typically include in-home delivery, unpacking/unboxing of the new mattress, disposal of packaging material, and removal of the old mattress. However, remember that these services usually come at an extra price. Although free shipping is not uncommon, free white glove delivery is almost unheard of. Free shipping typically is curb-side delivery and does not include in-home delivery.

Mattress Prices

One of the first things interested buyers would think of is the mattress price. They can cost as little as $300 for a memory foam mattress or as much as $2000 upwards for a latex foam king mattress in the 2023 mattress market. Adjustable air mattress brands (e.g. adjustable firmness air beds by Sleep Number) are usually not cheap. Obviously, split mattresses costs more than a queen mattress. No one wants to pay for shipping these days and thankfully, most models come with free shipping and extended periods of money back warranty these days. Some even come with free return shipping whereas with others, you only have to pay return shipping or a re-stocking fee. It is also important to think of sleep hygiene and the durability of a mattress. Some brands are cheap and less durable while high-cost models can be more durable due to the high quality materials that have been used to manufacture it. Whether you’re shopping online or at your local mattress stores / outlets / showrooms, this is something you really ought to pay attention to.

10 Benefits of Convertible Bed Frames

Are adjustable beds worth it? On average, adjustable beds cost $1,000 to $3,500, depending on your preference. Most customers find investment in an adjustable bed good for their health and worth the money since they provide sleep-promoting benefits.

You can enjoy the following sleep, lifestyle and health benefits from using an adjustable bed.

  1. Rest, watch television, read, knit, write, work on your laptop etc. from the comfort of your bed
